Things to

Things to Consider

Consider the following in association with solid surface materials:

  • Stall and hardware materials should be appropriate for expected use.
  • Material availability may affect lead times.
  • Some styles and layout configurations are not compatible.
  • Abrasive cleaning solutions are not appropriate for solid surface.
  • Durability and reparability vary with color.
  • Job site handling should be minimized.
  • Design complexity will likely impact lead times.
  • Additional cleaning care may be required.

Solid Surface

Design Details

Solid surface materials are made from acrylic polymer resins combined with pigments and fire retardant fillers. They are available in a wide range of colors and patterns from several manufacturers. Finishes range from matte to high gloss.

These materials are very impact resistant and work well in high-moisture environments.

Solid surface materials are homogeneous. As a result, most scratches and minor damage can be completely repaired with light sanding and polishing.

Another advantage of solid surface materials is seams can be chemically bonded so they are not visible in the final product. Seams are often required in solid surface partition designs, but this seam is not visible.

Ironwood partitions made from solid surface materials are normally manufactured as zero-sightline privacy systems. Other options, including traditional partition systems, are also available.
